21 Polygamists Opened Up About Their Relationships

In debates about marriage equality, opponents of same-sex marriage have often invoked the argument that allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry is a “slippery slope” to allowing other sorts of unions — like polygamy. However, this theory has proved to be false thus far. While support for same-sex marriage is at an all-time high in the United States, public support for polygamous marriage is markedly lower — around 16 percent, according to Gallup data.  

Some believe that this is due to the fact that the LGBTQ community is becoming more and more visible, so more Americans actually know someone who would benefit from marriage equality in the form of same-sex unions. The visibility of polygamists, on the other hand, is much lower.
