The Weeknd (née Abel Tesfaye) has been having a good year. He won a Grammy, released a new album, and performed on the same roster as Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. In the midst of his success, however, he got rid of his famous trademark: the dreadlocks. After months of inquiry from the outside world, the singer finally explained why he went for the chop.
“The vision wasn’t there anymore. It was the greatest feeling of all time [cutting off the hair],” he told D.J. Zayn Lowe from BEATS 1 in a recent interview. “It was so good. I could sleep better, I felt lighter, and when I perform, I perform better and feel better, it’s cool. The best part about all of it, I get to wear fu*king hats again. Wear a fu*king cap and walk into a restaurant and nobody knows it’s you.” He went on to explain that the dearly departed hair was given to his manager, who put it in a safe.
